• In 2025 it will be 60 years since the opening of this legendary hotel, founded in 1965 by designers Jamie Parladé and Duarte Pinto Coelho. 
• In 1978 its restaurant La Fonda received the first Michelin Star within a Marbella hotel, which held until 1995. 

Marbella, 9th April 2025– As part of its 60th anniversary and its consolidation as a luxury landmark in Marbella, La Fonda Heritage Hotel, the first member of Relais & Châteaux in Andalucia, presents a full schedule of cultural events for the spring. This initiative is part of the hotel’s objective to celebrate its anniversary with a variety of activities throughout the year, becoming a meeting point for lovers of gastronomy, culture and unique experiences in the heart of Marbella’s Old Town. 

History of a Marbella icon

The emblematic building that today houses the boutique hotel has a history as unique as it is fascinating. What began as a private residence was also a church, a school and since 1965 a landmark of Marbella’s high society, transformed into a luxury hotel by renowned designers Jamie Parladé and Duarte Pinto Coelho.  

In 1976, the hotel restaurant became a gastronomic epicentre under the direction of Gustav Horcher— known as Moppy—, son of the legendary Otto Horcher. His impeccable culinary offering and distinguished service attracted personalities from around the world, earning him the first Michelin star in 1978, which it held until 1995 (both editions included), the date of its closure.

Forty years later, the building, already in a state of ruin, was acquired with the intention of restoring it to its former splendour. An ambitious restoration project was undertaken that lasted seven years. During the works, valuable archaeological remains belonging to the former Hermitage of San Sebastián came to light. Many of these elements have been preserved and today form an integral part of the three 16th century buildings that make up the current hotel. 

One of the greatest treasures is the original dome of the church’s alcove, along with 18th century murals, now integrated into the spectacular Heritage Suite, one of the 20 rooms offered by this boutique hotel full of elegance and history. 

Cultural and Gastronomic Agenda

To commemorate the second anniversary of its reopening, throughout the month of April the hotel restaurant will offer its guests a complimentary cocktail designed especially for the occasion. A toast to the history, the excellence and the rebirth of a legendary place.

APRIL

• 10th of April – Roundtable on the Chinese market

Marbella City Council, through its Tourism Department, and in collaboration with Asialink, will hold a day of analysis on the opportunities of the Chinese Market. The meeting will feature the prominent participation of influencer Min Zhao, a regular contributor to Turespaña. The roundtable will take place from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

• 25th of April – Literary meeting with Agatha Ruiz de la Prada 

The iconic designer Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada is the star of this literary meeting in Marbella, where she will discuss her two latest books: “Mis Memorias” and “Todo por un plan”. “Mis Memorias” is an intimate tour of her personal and professional life, from her first steps in the world of fashion to her consolidation as one of the most recognised figures in Spanish design. “Todo por un plan”, meanwhile, reveals the ins and outs of her creative universe, exploring with humour and intelligence her philosophy of life, art, aesthetics and her most personal reflections.  

The event will take place at 7:30pm in Los Patios de La Fonda, in an intimate and approachable format, designed for lovers of literature and fashion. We will soon confirm who will accompany the author during the talk.

MAY

• 8th, 9th and 10th of May –Be Beautiful vase exhibition

The prestigious German interior decorator Bernard Biscontini Hasse, owner of the Be Beautiful boutique, will present an original collection of 20 ceramic, glass, porcelain, and stone vases, the work of various international artists that fuse design and contemporary sensibility. A unique opportunity to contemplate handcrafted pieces full of originality and refinement.

JUNE

• 5th of June – Business networking with LA RED CIT

The hotel will be the setting for this dynamic professional meeting organised by the CIT Marbella Association of business owners and professionals. LA RED CIT is based on an agile format that favours the creation of synergies and real opportunities for collaboration between local business owners and entrepreneurs. 

• 9th-14th of June 2025 – Marbella Fair

• 27th of June – Candlelit Gala Dinner and Concert by Joaquín de Pareja- Obregón

The renowned pianist and composer Joaquín Pareja-Obregón will offer a unique musical evening that fuses piano and flamenco in an incomparable setting. The experience will begin with an exclusive gala dinner, designed to delight the senses before giving way to the live concert. Gastronomic Holy Week
In addition, between the 13th and the 20th of April, the hotel restaurant will offer a special Holy Week menu designed by executive chef Jorge González. Inspired by the traditional flavours of the season and reinterpreted with a signature touch, the menu will be available every night from 7:00pm to 11:00pm, at a fixed price of €68 (drinks not included).

Full Moon Experience at La Fonda
Under the magic of the full moon, La Fonda is transformed into the setting for a unique sensory experience where live music, signature cocktails and a gastronomic proposal specially designed for the occasion come together. The Sky Bar, with its views of Marbella’s historic centre, hosts this unforgettable event that celebrates lunar energy and the beginning of summer. 

The next editions of the Full Moon Experience will take place on May 13th, 14th and 15th and coinciding with the Marbella Fair on June 11th, 12th and 13th, adding a festive atmosphere to the celebration that will make each night an unforgettable experience.

Marbella, September 9th, 2022 – More than 300 guests from many countries around the world gathered at the inauguration event of Club Med Magna Marbella yesterday evening, September 9th. The event was attended by the Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, as well as the French Ambassador to Spain, Jean Michel Casa, and other authorities. “The continuous increase in our bookings confirms the appeal of Club Med and the attractiveness of Marbella for our clients, and we are committed to contributing to the development of tourism in this beautiful region,” says Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med.

Club Med and Spain have a strong emotional link since the first day of its creation, in 1950 when the concept was born in Alcudia, Balearic Islands. The return to Spain therefore carries emotional weight, as the country is undoubtedly etched in Club Med’s history.

Yesterday in Benahavís we celebrated the launch of The View. A new real estate promotion for future residents to enjoy the best architecture of the highest quality and above all, the ‘golf balcony’. The event we organized for The View was just a taste of what is to come for these buyers: work, enthusiasm, passion, elegance and a great atmosphere. Marbella, 22^nd of January 2018: This year again, for the 3^rd time, the Centro Plaza shopping centre is hosting its solidary race. This time the race will take place on the 28^th of January and will follow its usual trajectory, starting by the hotel PYR in Puerto Banús and ending in the Centro Plaza shopping centre. The event was presented this very morning with the assistance the councillor of sports, Javier Mérida, the delegate of Nueva Andalucía, Cristóbal  Garré, the president of the Marbella Red Cross, Julián García Aguilar and Carlos García, manager of Centro Plaza shopping centre.

During the presentation, both councilmen pointed out the importance of these private initiatives in favour of the promotion of sport and solidarity, encouraging citizens to participate: “This is a quality event, such as we are used to from Centro Plaza”, added Mérida, who will not be running this year but will be present to support the event. Garré, who will also attend explained “ The involvement of citizens is key for the development of the districts”, and used Centro Plazas work in the organization of the Solidary Race, year after year, as an example of this commitment.

Carlos García, manager of Centro Plaza, highlighted that “Inscriptions can be made online, at centroplaza.es, through dorsal chip or in person at the Urbemar offices in Centro Plaza shopping centre, until noon of the 26^th of January. For those who decide to inscribe last minute, they may do so at the starting point of the race before it begins, between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM”.

Inscription prices are 8 euros for adults and 3 euros for all minor categories. The funds raised will be destined entirely to the Marbella Red Cross. “This year it will be used to reinforce the `Intemperie´ programme”, stated Julián García Aguilar, president of the Marbella Red Cross. “It´s an assistance programme for homeless people, which we will soon be able to apply in a more worthy fashion through the opening of our new emergency centre” he concluded.

The Centro Plaza race is a great charity event and a must go on the Marbella sports calendar. The event is supported by both public and private institutions including Siesta interior design, Frutas Eladio, LY Company, ALC Global Health Insurance, Café Yanx, Luna Agustín Ulibarri lawyers, Gonvel GV & Kamph Lawyers and Tax Advisors, CIT Marbella and the Marbella and San Pedro athletics clubs.

The race begins by the Hotel PYR in Puerto Banús on Rotary International Street at 10:00 AM. The track is 8 km long and runs through Puerto Banús and Nueva Andalucía, it is of medium difficulty encompassing upward and downward slopes and flat areas. The finishing line is in the Centro Plaza shopping centre on Manolete Street, 1, Nueva Andalucía.

Shorter tracks have been selected for the minor categories. For those aged 11 or less the race will begin at 11:30 AM and will be 400 metres long, whereas those aged 13 or less will start 20 minutes later at 11:50 AM, and their track will be 800 metres long. Those aged 17 or less (two groups) start at 12:15 PM and have a track of 1600 metres.

The participants can pick up their dorsals in the Urbemar offices, the administrative company of Centro Plaza, office nr. 6, between 10:00 AM and 02:00 PM on the 25^th and 26^th of January, or on the 28^th before the race, between 08:00 AM and 09:30 AM at the starting line by the Hotel PYR in Puerto Banús.

The main provisioning point will be installed by the finishing line, with an auxiliary point half way to provide water. Sanitary service and ambulances will also be located by the finishing line.

All prizes will be handed over from mid-day onward in Centro Plaza. There will be trophies for the winners of the main race in both the male and female categories. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top 3 of each group and each sex. The juvenile, junior, promising and senior categories will additionally receive a technical race shirt and the pre Benjamin, Benjamin, alevin, infantile and cadete categories will get a back pack.

Marbella, 24^th January 2018. Today, The American College in Spain, inaugurated its new campus, which is located in La Alzambra, next to Vasari Business Center. The event was presided by the Mayoress of Marbella, Ms. Angeles Muñoz, and it was attended by a large number of journalists from the local media and the business community of Marbella.

Ms. Angeles Muñoz, together with the Campus Director of The American College in Spain, Ms. Melissa Butler, inaugurated the new premises of this prestigious American institution. The American College in Spain is an International Center of Broward College, the 5^th largest university in the US. The center has been offering academic programs in the Costa del Sol for more than 5 years and for nearly 50 around the world.

During the event, the first and only American High School program on the Costa del Sol was introduced. The High School Program, which has been operating in Marbella for 2 years, is fully accepted by universities in the United States.

Ms. Muñoz emphasized the importance of having educational institutions in Marbella such as The American College in Spain, that help attract students from around the world and the region, especially during the low season.

The High School Program, offered by The American College in Spain, is conducted with the support and accreditation of the University of Nebraska High School. Thanks to this accreditation, students can complete their studies in Marbella and obtain their High School Diploma, which will allow them to apply to any university in the US, Canada, or other countries worldwide.

Following the presentation, the attendees were shown around the new premises. “Although we do not have a huge campus, these are state of the art facilities. The most important aspect of our center is that it offers excellence in education, fully accredited studies, a personalized education system with a maximum of 16 students per class, and highly qualified faculty”, declared Melissa Butler, the Campus Director.

Marbella, 30th June: Last night a conference on ´National Populism and the Press´ was celebrated, organised the Association of Friends of Tel Aviv University in Spain, marking the start of their 2017 lecture series. The conference was led by distinguished journalists and writers Arcadi Espada and Teodoro León Gross. Both reflected on what is considered to be the most pertinent subject in the world at the moment, especially in the European Union.

Both intellectuals debated the results of Brexit, the victory of Trump, Marie Le Pen coming second in the French presidential elections, and the polarisation of politics in Europe, with the resurgence of extreme right movements in countries such as Holland and Greece, all whilst we see extreme left groups consolidating. For the speakers, this affirms that populism is neither a question of rights and lefts nor a question of territory; rather it is a global issue that has arisen as a result of the collapse of the state of well-being.

What´s more, during the course of the evening, enjoyed at the home of hostess Remedios Del Río, vice president of the Association of Friends of Tel Aviv University in Spain, the importance of the press was as an essential ally in supporting nationalism and populism was greatly emphasised. These two ideals depend on one another to succeed in the post-truth era ruled by media, in which emotions and beliefs take precedence over objective facts, in public opinion

The two journalists discussed all of these questions in a dynamic and intense meeting, perfectly characterising Arcadi Espada´s presenting style. Following interventions, they responded to questions and enquiries by guests, who followed each of the journalists´ words with great interest

Drawing to a close, the conference finally came to an end with an informal dinner during which, naturally, guests continued to discuss the different ideas put across during the talks  and especially, in relation to the consequences of expansion and consolidation of National Populism for the West.

The Association of Friends of Tel Aviv University in Spain is a non-profit organisation that aims to extend the reach of this prestigious learning establishment, and the academic and institutional world of Spain.

With aims to promote cultural interchange, the Association of Friends of Tel Aviv University in Spain organises different activities such as that celebrated last night which forms part of their 2017 lecture series in which points of interest and current affairs are debated at the hands of renowned experts in each of their respected fields. The next meeting will take place in Madrid on the 14^th of September. The conference, titled, ´The Role of Intercultural Communication in International Diplomacy´, will be led by Professor Yoav Tenembaun, a teacher who is part of the Diplomacy Program of Tel Aviv University, and supported by ex-minister of Foreign Affairs, Miguel Ángel Moratinos.
