Marbella, 22^nd of January 2018: This year again, for the 3^rd time, the Centro Plaza shopping centre is hosting its solidary race. This time the race will take place on the 28^th of January and will follow its usual trajectory, starting by the hotel PYR in Puerto Banús and ending in the Centro Plaza shopping centre. The event was presented this very morning with the assistance the councillor of sports, Javier Mérida, the delegate of Nueva Andalucía, Cristóbal  Garré, the president of the Marbella Red Cross, Julián García Aguilar and Carlos García, manager of Centro Plaza shopping centre.

During the presentation, both councilmen pointed out the importance of these private initiatives in favour of the promotion of sport and solidarity, encouraging citizens to participate: “This is a quality event, such as we are used to from Centro Plaza”, added Mérida, who will not be running this year but will be present to support the event. Garré, who will also attend explained “ The involvement of citizens is key for the development of the districts”, and used Centro Plazas work in the organization of the Solidary Race, year after year, as an example of this commitment.

Carlos García, manager of Centro Plaza, highlighted that “Inscriptions can be made online, at centroplaza.es, through dorsal chip or in person at the Urbemar offices in Centro Plaza shopping centre, until noon of the 26^th of January. For those who decide to inscribe last minute, they may do so at the starting point of the race before it begins, between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM”.

Inscription prices are 8 euros for adults and 3 euros for all minor categories. The funds raised will be destined entirely to the Marbella Red Cross. “This year it will be used to reinforce the `Intemperie´ programme”, stated Julián García Aguilar, president of the Marbella Red Cross. “It´s an assistance programme for homeless people, which we will soon be able to apply in a more worthy fashion through the opening of our new emergency centre” he concluded.

The Centro Plaza race is a great charity event and a must go on the Marbella sports calendar. The event is supported by both public and private institutions including Siesta interior design, Frutas Eladio, LY Company, ALC Global Health Insurance, Café Yanx, Luna Agustín Ulibarri lawyers, Gonvel GV & Kamph Lawyers and Tax Advisors, CIT Marbella and the Marbella and San Pedro athletics clubs.

The race begins by the Hotel PYR in Puerto Banús on Rotary International Street at 10:00 AM. The track is 8 km long and runs through Puerto Banús and Nueva Andalucía, it is of medium difficulty encompassing upward and downward slopes and flat areas. The finishing line is in the Centro Plaza shopping centre on Manolete Street, 1, Nueva Andalucía.

Shorter tracks have been selected for the minor categories. For those aged 11 or less the race will begin at 11:30 AM and will be 400 metres long, whereas those aged 13 or less will start 20 minutes later at 11:50 AM, and their track will be 800 metres long. Those aged 17 or less (two groups) start at 12:15 PM and have a track of 1600 metres.

The participants can pick up their dorsals in the Urbemar offices, the administrative company of Centro Plaza, office nr. 6, between 10:00 AM and 02:00 PM on the 25^th and 26^th of January, or on the 28^th before the race, between 08:00 AM and 09:30 AM at the starting line by the Hotel PYR in Puerto Banús.

The main provisioning point will be installed by the finishing line, with an auxiliary point half way to provide water. Sanitary service and ambulances will also be located by the finishing line.

All prizes will be handed over from mid-day onward in Centro Plaza. There will be trophies for the winners of the main race in both the male and female categories. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top 3 of each group and each sex. The juvenile, junior, promising and senior categories will additionally receive a technical race shirt and the pre Benjamin, Benjamin, alevin, infantile and cadete categories will get a back pack.

Marbella, December 1^st 2016: Next Sunday December 11^th will mark the 2^nd Centro Plaza Solidarity Race, starting at 10am from Hotel Pyr and finishing at 1 Avenida Manolete.  Following the race last year, the shopping centre will organise this charity run in partnership with Marbella Town Hall and a wide range of public and private entities. All the proceeds will go towards the Red Cross.

A press conference  organised by MN Comunicación took place in the shopping centre this morning to present the event, which was attended by Blanca Fernández, the town councillor for sport, Julián García Aguilar, the president of Red Cross in Marbella, and Carlos García, the manager of Centro Plaza. Fernández and García praised Centro Plaza’s initiative on behalf of Marbella Town Hall, predicting a great success for the run. This success is something that “has been demonstrated on other occasions by the people of Marbella, thanks to their charitable spirit”. García Aguilar described the run as a family competition which combines charity and sport, and made mention of what most of the proceeds of the run will go towards: food and toys for underprivileged families. He went on to encourage the whole city to join in the event. The manager of Centro Plaza gave his own words of thanks to the participants, who include Urbemar, PYR Hotel and MIP Mibro International Properties, whose involvement he commended thanks to the charitable nature of the competition.

A total of 500 participants of nearly all ages will be taking part in the race. The running course, which is of a medium difficulty level, will cover flat ground, uphill and down-hill slopes from Nueva Andalucía to Puerto Banús. There will be 4 different distances to cover, depending on the participant categories. The 400m, 800m and 1600m distances are for the younger age-groups, with the 8km distance for the older participants.

The categories will be prebenjamín (under 7’s), benjamín (under 10’s), alevín (under 12’s), infantil (under 14’s), cadete (under 16’s), juvenil (under 18’s), junior (under 20’s), promesa (under-23’s), senior (23-35’s) and veteran (35+). The competitor numbers will be given out on Thursday and Friday December 8^th and 9^th to the Urbemar offices, Av. Manolete, 1, in Marbella between 8am and 3pm. It will also be possible to collect them on the day of the race between 8-9.30am at the starting line (Hotel Pyr Puerto Banús).

The general route, which is around 8km long, begins from Hotel Pyr Puerto Banús, Avenida Rotary Internacional, and continues through Calle Ramón Areces, Calle Francisco Villalon, Avenida Julio Iglesias, Alberto Vidiella Tudores promenade, Avenida Julio Iglesias, Espigón Puerto Banús/ Avenida Julio Iglesias, Avenida José Banús, Calle Juan Belmonte, Avenida Pilar Calvo up to the entrance of Centro Plaza. The mini-run, at 800m long, will take place in the outdoor parking of Centro Plaza and Avenida Manolete. It is worth taking note that the competition courses could be subject to change, if deemed necessary for safety by the public authorities in charge.

It will be possible to sign up from October 15^th until December 8^th at midday, and the cost of participation will be either 3 or 8 euros, according to the age-group. All proceeds will go directly to the Red Cross. ?

It is possible to sign up either through Centro Plaza’s website, at the centre in person, or even on the day of the race between 8.00 and 9.30am in the tent set up at the starting line (Hotel Pyr Puerto Banús).

With regard to the prizes, there will be trophies for the overall male and female winners, as well as gold, silver and bronze medals for first, second and third place respectively for each gender and category. In the youth categories, those from under 18’s to under 23’s will receive a running vest and those from prebenjamín (under 7’s) to cadete (under16’s) will receive a bag or rucksack.

The main refuelling point will be installed at the finish line, with a water station along the middle of the general course. There will also be a place for drinks past the finish line, with health services and ambulances located at the finish line itself.
